Boom Cup Drinking Game: Rules and How to Play?

Boom Cup, better known as Slap Cup, is a fabulous drinking game that should have a place at everyone’s house party. It’s hands down one of the most entertaining drinking games I’ve ever participated in.

There’s quite a bit more to Boom Cup than your average drinking game, and it requires more strategy than simple drinking games such as battle shots.

Throughout this guide, I will walk you through the rules and instructions of the game, so by the end, you’ll be the one teaching your friends and family how to play.

What You’ll Need to Play Boom Cup?

There’s minimal equipment needed to play Boom Cup, and thankfully, everything you’ll need is pretty inexpensive. The checklist below will take you to everything you’re going to need.

And, of course, you’ll need your beer of choice and a bunch of friends who are up for a good time.

And that’s it, you’re ready to play.

Setting Up Boom Cup

Once you’ve got your ping pong table (or any large enough table) in place, you need to create a circle of cups. There should be one cup per number of players.

Next, you need to fill each cup around a third full with beer, and in the middle of the circle, you’ll put the “kill cup,” which is filled to the top.

Now place two more empty cups near the table’s edge and set your bouncy balls next to them.

That’s your table ready, let’s play!

Okay, now you’ve got your table set up, gather your players around it, and decide which two players are going to first. Once this has been settled, the two players should stand in front of the balls and empty cups.

When the gang shouts “Go!” the two players should attempt to bounce the balls into their empty cup.

Now, this is where things get interesting because one of two things will occur.

Either you’re going to successfully get the ball into the cup on your first attempt, and happy days, the turn moves to the next player on your left. The game continues, or you keep trying, and if you get the ball in the cup on another try, the turn moves to the person on your right.

However, there’s an aspect of competition here because if the person playing at the time as you get their ball into their cup before you, the player to your left must shout “Boom Cup” and slap your cup to the floor. Now, you’ll have to drink from one of the cups in the circle.

The Safety Bit

I know you’re already aware of the safety rules you should be following when playing drinking games. However, I can’t come here telling you how to play without going into the safety bit, now can I?

Don’t worry; I won’t be here all day, but please remember to follow the rules below to ensure you and everyone at your party can have a great night, get merry, and safely enjoy the Boom Cup drinking game.

  1. Drink responsibly and know your limits.
  2. Stay hydrated
  3. Don’t pressure others to drink if they don’t want to.
  4. Plan your journey home beforehand.
  5. Don’t feel pressured to keep up with the crowd.
  6. Look after your friends and family.
  7. Take breaks and pace yourself.
  8. Avoid mixing alcohol with medication or other substances.
  9. Make sure you have something to eat; order everyone some pizzas, and then you can play the pizza box drinking game after if you’ve got the stamina.

Bottom’s Up

So, that’s how you play the entertaining drinking game, Boom Cup. I hope you’ve now picked up on the rules so you can show your friends and family how to play at your next event or social gathering. If you’re looking for more games, why not try Flip Cup? It’s pretty similar in terms of the rules, and you won’t need to get any extra equipment either- a real bonus!
